Here comes the day 4 of our moving road trip. I was up early in the morning to take care of my son. After placing him in the crib, I was enjoying the quiet moment with a cup of coffee in my hand, watching the sunrise from the room. December 8th, its my husband’s birthday!
When the sun is up completely, everybody was getting out of bed. We grabbed the complementary breakfast from the lobby and were getting ready for the departure. Then, all of the sudden, sad small whines came out from a room. So I checked the room and found that our dog, Orbit, was bringing up his right leg hopping!!
OMG OMG OMG!!!
I knew the bed in this room was higher than our bed or from the other hotels. It seems like Orbit tried to jump on or off from the bed and failed and injured his leg…
We hear some says “there is always an accident during a trip”, but we’ve never encountered an injury!! We kinda freaked out and searched for a vet nearby. Thanks to the technology. Google made us easy to do the work. After calling the 3rd vet, we finally found a place that’ll accept a walk in. At 9:30am, we headed to the vet.
It was about 10min from the hotel, called Dell Range Animal Hospital.
They took an X-ray and fortunately it wasn’t a broken bone. They didn’t find any joints came off either. It’s probably he just twisted his leg. So we received a pain killer and were told to monitor him. And if it gets worse, then take him to the local vet in Nevada.
It was 10:30am, we left Wyoming to Utah.
Here’s our son kept sleeping and sad Orbit, and I was sitting next to them excited about the water from Wyoming.
Road Map
Today’s trip is pretty long. The overall distance is 457 miles and the drive is about six and a half hours.
Although it was a long drive, it was mentally easier than the drive through Nebraska.
It was probably because of the views!! Comparing to flat Nebraska, we drove between mountains and hills. When we drove from Los Angeles to Illinois back in 2017, we took Colorado route and went through Rocky Mountains, but we had a view of Rocky Mountains on the left this time.
It was my first time driving through Wyoming, and I loved it!! On the way, we found wind turbines and a train running next to I-80. Plus, we saw many unique rocks and cliffs like the one you can find in Utah. Those fantastic views never bored me!
So since we lost some time and my husband said he can handle a longer drive, we drove 2 hours straight!
We took a lunch break at Stinker I-80 Travel Plaza. I ordered a French toast sandwich out of curiosity, but what can I expect in the middle of road. it was as good as the convenient store level. Although, there was lots of cheese and ham inside so it will fill you up pretty good!
After the stop, we drove about an hour and 40min and exited the freeway around Rock Springs to fill up the gas. It was already before 4pm and we wanted to avoid driving in a dark, so after this point, we decided to drive all the way to Salt Lake City, UT.
Luckily our son was sleeping all the way long.
As getting closer to Utah, we started seeing many more cliffs. By the way, probably we were driving in a higher elevation, I could feel some pressure in my ears. For example, the hotel we stayed in Cheyenne, WY was already at 6,063 feet elevation.
When the sun is about to set, we finally entered Utah!
Once you cross the border, the road goes down all the way to Salt Lake City. For your information, the difference in elevation between the town near the border, Evanston, WY and Salt Lake City, UT is about 2,500 feet.
We drove by a ski resort and finally arrived at Salt Lake City!
Christmas was around the corner and the city was in full of Christmas decorations! Our hotel was the east side of the city, but since today is my husband’s birthday, we stopped at a Sushi restaurant called TAKASHI and ordered a takeout.
TAKASHI
The website is from here. It was a $$$ on yelp, but the review is pretty good with 4.5 stars. Sure enough, their nigiri was pretty good! Rice wasn’t bad (a lot of sushi restaurants screws up with rice…). In my mind, as grown up in Japan, my review toward sushi is based on nigiris, not rolls or maki. And I think this restaurant is pretty good! Highly recommended if you are in town.
At 8pm, we finally arrived at hotel. 2 more days to go! Next is a trip from Utah to Nevada.
