Road Trip ~ Elko, NV to Reno ~

Here comes the last day of our moving road trip. The last part of the road is about 290 miles and it’s a 4 hours drive.

Once you leave Elko, you only need to drive along I-80 all the way to Reno. On the way, we passed a kinda bigger town called Winnemucca. According to the guidebook that I have now, Winnemucca is “the friendliest town in Nevada”. You can enjoy big Basque dinner and learn a history of buckaroo. And don’t forget, there is a Humboldt Museum, where you can check out a wooly mammoth skeleton and fossils.

Sounds fun, right? Why didn’t I check prior the trip…

In a half way of the trip, around Mill City, we took a short break. 2 more hours to go.

After Mill City we spotted a town with a cute name, Lovelock. It appears that there is one of the must-see attractions. If you are visiting Lovelock and interested in an archeology, Lovelock Cave must be a fascinating place. “Archeologists consider this cave to be one of the most important sites in North American archeology”. Some of the artifacts were discovered back in 400BC to 100AD.

I’d love to visit there someday!

In another an hour and so, we arrived in the biggest little city in the world, Reno NV.

The “Biggest Little City in the World”

Since it was still cold outside, we didn’t get out of car, but we found some hotels that we wanted to check out! Unlike Vegas, it wasn’t crowded and big as I imagined. Can’t wait for summer to explore!!

We went up to University Ridge Park to check out the whole town from the top of the hill. It sure is a big little town. I wonder if Waikiki in Hawaii is bigger than Reno.

City Light

Well, whether we like it or not, this is our new town. How exciting!! What’s good comparing to Illinois is mountains!! I mean, of course the weather too though.

Where I spent most of my life (Japan & Hawaii) had mountains and ocean. So, I felt like something was missing back in Illinois. Chicago was certainly a beautiful city though!!

Anyways, this is it. This is the end of our road trip story. From next, I’m gonna show Nevada local stories.

Thank you!!
