Riverwalk in Reno

We came down to downtown to explore a little bit on Sunday!

It was our first time walking around the town, but I felt it’s a little bit sketchy… I’m used to a beautiful Chicago or renewed Waikiki. But here in Reno where we walked, some hotels and restaurants were closed permanently and left behind without any renovations or plans to re-build.

Despite the sunny day, the buildings blocked the sunlight and the side walk was kinda dark. It made me feel like I’m walking through a ghost town LOL

Well, that’s maybe exaggerated. I easily get scared. But in my mind, I was relieved that I wasn’t carrying a nice purse but a diaper bag.

The Arch

Anyways, I was with my husband, so I stuck close to him and checked out the arch!

We saw some tourists taking a picture with the arch in the middle of the road. We didn’t since we were with our son and Orbit, our dog.

The Arch

It was Sunday on the nice warm day in downtown, but unlike Vegas it wasn’t busy at all.

Where the locals are – around the Truckee River.

The river goes from Pyramid Lake and Lake Tahoe. And along the river, the city or the state is developing a nice bike path. It is open to public partially, and the walking we did previously at Mayberry Park is one of them. Around the Pyramid Lake is also open, but we have to buy a permit to go there since it is in the Paiute Reservation. Last time I checked their website, it was $22 per person to get a permit.

Riverwalk

At the riverwalk, we saw many people walking their dogs and enjoying a nice day walk.

We decided to walk from Riverwalk district to Idlewild Park. Round trip is about 2.4 miles (3.86km) and it was really a good exercise for both Orbit and me.

Along the way to the park, I accidently stepped on Orbit, but I’m so glad he seemed ok… I was carrying Aksel with a carrier, so I couldn’t see my feet…

The weather was nice with around 48F. Many people are hanging out near the water or enjoying fishing in the river. It sounds like there are trout.

The river is partially deep and has a nice flow. I wonder if we can swim there.

I highly recommend this walk when you come to Reno!
