Pregnancy Week 34

During week 34, I had relatively plenty of hospital visits. I appreciate my boss being so flexible without asking me to take PTOs.

Ultrasound Appointment

Starting with Monday, I had my 5th ultrasound appointment. It appears that the hospital started loosen their rule against Covid-19, so my husband could join with me this time.

Major concern was the baby’s size. Since I have a gestational diabetes, the baby tends to become larger than the standard size. The result was, yes, within the average weight!! At week 34, my baby weighs about 5 lb and 3 oz. Not too small nor too big. Also his head is still down!! All the measurements was normal. My doctor also checked my blood sugar result and yeah, he was pretty surprised that I’m totally controlling it without medication. I sometimes may be conservatively counting the carbs intake amount more than what it actually is, but it’s really hard to measure everything if we cook from scratch very often. The result is result. I don’t see a spike much, so that’s good. I will have another (probably the last) ultrasound in 4 weeks. That’ll be about a week or 2 before the due date.

Pediatrician Visit

We had an appointment for a meet and greet with one of the recommended pediatrician on Tuesday. We scheduled to have a phone call with him, but they also changed the rule and we could see him in person, as well as checking out his office.

His office was pretty clean and organized well. They had a fish tank in the waiting room, which probably will occupy kids while waiting. The pediatrician seems nice guy, talks a lot and kinda fast, but he seems knowledgeable. He is probably around 40s, so he won’t retire before our baby become an adult, if we are still hanging around in this area though. He has 4, 5 other team members who shares information among them, and they have a weekend office hours and opens until 7pm on weekdays too. My husband liked him a lot, and I was little exhausted from talking with him, receiving many information and his fast pace talk, but I guess we’ll stick with him.

9th OBGYN/ NST visit

This OBGYN visit was done at my regular hospital on Wednesday. (Ultrasound is at different location)

Again, this hospital also changed their rule and now I could bring my husband with me. It was his first time meeting my nurses/ doctors. Our visit started with 20min of NST. It was nice to have a company while laying down on a bed. haha Her assistant informed me about a flu shot, so why not? I received one while I was on NST. The NST went well. It seems like my doctor was pretty busy today, so instead of asking me move to another room to see a doctor, she came in the room of NST and chat with me quickly. She had a newbie with her.

She gave me a heads up to my next OBGYN visit that I’ll receive some kind of test. I think it was called Group B strep test or something. She said she will take a sample inside my vagina and see if there is bacteria there. This bacteria doesn’t harm mom or many doesn’t even notice having one, but when the baby comes through the canal, it will infect the baby. If the result is positive, then you will just receive an antibiotics through IV during labor. The test is commonly done during 35 – 37 weeks’ pregnancy.

That was pretty much it. Next week, we’ll start with child birth class and maternity tour FAQ’s through zoom. We’ll learn new thing or it’s gonna be a review of what we’ve learned again. Sounds exciting!!
