Pregnancy Week 27

Today is the beginning of August. The weather is getting more comfortable in Chicago area. It’s nice to have a longer walk to get some exercise now 🙂

During week 27, I had a second Glucose test. Long story short, I failed again LOL

What a shocking news! Doctor’s office called me to make an appointment at another hospital so I’m gonna see a dietitian and another ultrasound is scheduled.

Why I failed? Not so sure. My pre-pregnancy BMI is 19.5 so I’m not really considered as an obesity. Current total weight gain is still around 18lbs. I don’t think I’m gaining too much either. I’m not a soda drinker nor have sweet tooth, I don’t usually snack even with the pregnancy. Any clues? Yeah, I kinda have a clue. It’s probably carbs. I’m not eating too much though I think…

2nd Glucose Test

The second Glucose test was similar procedure as the first one.

But this time, they took my initial blood before drinking the sugar drink. And the drink, it was twice as much sweeter than the last one! 100g sugar contents!! This one was harder to finish it haha No lemon lime flavor option was available 🙁

Glucose Drink – Orange Flavor!

So here’s the summary of the procedure:

  • Draw Initial Blood
  • Finish the drink within 5 min
  • Sit and wait for an hour
  • 1st blood test
  • Sit and wait for an hour
  • 2nd blood test
  • Sit and wait for an hour
  • 3rd blood test
  • Done!

The last blood was taken from the back of my hand. Oh yeah it hurts more than arm!! I had the same technician that took my blood during the first glucose test. She told me that I failed because I told her I ate breakfast before the test. But this time, I skipped it, and still failed LOL My result was 2 out of 4 exceeded the standard values.

So I googled. It turns out, it’s not only coming out from your diet.

Here are the risk factors I found:

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome.
  • Being overweight.
  • Being over the age of 30.
  • Having three or more pregnancies.
  • Being of Hispanic, African American, Native American, South or East Asian, or Pacific Island descent.
  • A family history of diabetes.
  • Previous births of babies over 9 pounds.

I mean yeah, I can see some factors that applies to me. Let’s see what the dietitian will tell me. I hope I don’t have to cut all carbs… crossing fingers 😉

Baby Registry

Another event is our baby registry. We finally released it to our friends and coworkers.

Although we are not planning for the baby shower due to Covid-19 and distance, what a generous folks! Instantly they contributed a lot for us and we are really lucky to have them in our life ♥

So many goodies are delivered at door 🙂

As I mentioned in my previous blog, we are using Amazon Baby Registry. Just drop some items in the list and share the link with everybody. Pretty easy and simple process! There is also a “group contribution” option for those items with a higher price tag. You can edit the minimum $ to allow this option as well. Some of my husband’s coworkers seems getting together and contributing some money into our baby stroller, which costs close to $300.

In addition to that option, once you hit $500 of purchase from the list, you’ll receive 20% off on eligible diapers for a year!! We’ve already got it covered from our friends/coworkers!! We really appreciate their contribution ♥

Many things are getting ready and 3 more months to go 🙂

I’ll have a 6th OBGYN visit and an appointment with the dietitian. I’ll keep you updated!
