Japanese – “Sweet Potato”

It’s weird to think about it now. This desert called “Sweet Potato” is one of my favorite Japanese sweets. Don’t worry, it’s not just a sweet potato lol

Again, it’s better to use Japanese Murasaki sweet potatoes, but I only had a yam. Turned out, it was as I expected though <3

Ingredients:

  • 1 Japanese Murasaki sweet potato (substituted with yam)
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Few drops of Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg Yolk

Step 1: Peel yam skin and slice it about a half inch thick. Soak it in water for 3 – 5 min.

Step 2: Damp the water and microwave the potato for about 5 – 8 min or until it gets soften. Mash the sweet potatoes until it looses its shape.

Step 3: While it’s still hot, add butter, milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract and mix well.

Step 4: Make a shape and lay it on the aluminum foil or baking sheet. Apply egg yolk to the surface with a brush.

Step 5: Bake them in oven for 30min at 375F. When it’s done, you can eat it hot or it’s enjoyable when it’s chilled as well 🙂
