How Engineers Spend Money πŸ’°

Honestly I’m not that proud lol My purchase was a bit lack of research I believe πŸ€”πŸ˜‘

It was simple. Since the temperature outside started dropping at night, I decided to move my plumeria inside. As we are in Northern Illinois, our plant hardiness zone is 5, where plumeria requires zone 9 thru 11.

Some just take the plant indoor or in garage and make the plant be dormant 😴

Chicago Tribune also brought up the topic (Click Above link) if Plumeria can survive over winter in Chicago. They highly recommended to keep the garage temperature at least 55F (12.7C) with sufficient lightβ˜€οΈ.

So, I did some research what the light requirements are.

Mostly you’ll find anywhere the plumeria plants require 78-90F (26-32C) and full sun (or even direct sun light) for 6 to 8 hours a day. The website above (Tropics at Home) shows they are using 6,000K (color temperature) LED lamp. They are saying “The color temperature of direct sunlight is about 5,780K “.

So why not? I went to Amazon.com and searched for a 6,000K plant growing lamp.

It was a bit expensive ($115) for a lamp, but it did sound good and meet what I was looking for.

Silly me, I didn’t check any dimensions or whatsoever. When I received the package, I noticed how big the package was LOL

I was (or am still) a little bit worrying about electricity bill with having 600W ON for 6-8 hours a day… we’ll see…πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ lol

It’s just, too powerful and could get pretty hot, I had no choice but set it up in our garage. We also didn’t want any flammable things near by to catch fire or anything either. Just to be on the safe side.

So here it goes. We finished setting up in garage.

Old license plate to cover up in case the lamp falls πŸ˜…

It’s been working ok. Temperature seems go up by 10-20F than outside, but it keeps around 90F when it’s on. It is super BRIGHT as it provides 6,000K!! Otherwise, it seems like the plumeria can go live in the garage over winter – temperature wise though.

That’s my recent purchase story. Then, my husband (also Engineer) was a bit envy or what, he purchased this LOL

3D printer at home ✨

It’s gonna be so much fun going on in this house :p
