Fabric Softener Dryer Sheet is a Bad Idea…

So, this is what’s happening at home this week.

We did our laundry on Sunday as usual, made sure all of used laundry dryer sheets were tossed in the trash can. (It happened back in March when our dog was playing with a used dryer sheet and vomited right away. The brand was Bounce.)

On Monday, I spotted a small puke on the carpet, but I wasn’t sure why he did it until after dinner when I heard chewing noise. I turned around and noticed that he was again playing with the used laundry sheet. I ran to him and took it away as soon as I found out, but he was still moving his mouth. I thought he still had a torn piece in his mouth so I put my fingers tried to take that out, but I couldn’t find anything. After seconds he stopped chewing.

A half of me freaked out a lot, thought he swallowed it, and another half was he can puke the piece out… This time was “Love Home and Planet” brand dryer sheet. I love this brand.

Definitely smells nice and it’s also plant based item. I guess nothing does matter if it’s something dog can chew of…??

He was so fine for several hours, then the first wave came. After that was every single hour throughout the night, total of 6 times we had to wake up for cleaning. Everybody especially himself was pretty tired on Tuesday morning. Luckily, my company was in the middle of “summer hour” time (basically you work for 9 hours a day and get a half day off every week), so I requested to switch my half day off to Tuesday PM from Thursday PM. In the morning, I mixed pumpkin paste in his dry food to get him hydrated. I bet he was starving, when I opened the can, he jumped out of the bed and came downstairs right away. He finished usual portion of breakfast. Though, we’ve decided to skip his daycare at Dogtopia today.

When I got home around noon, he was so exhausted and didn’t even notice me until I called his name. I didn’t see any sign of accident on the floor. I guess he was sleeping through. I was relieved but he threw up again within an hour. That was it for Tuesday. I let him sleep and relax for the day, and I was discussing with my husband if he throw up again, feeling pain, less appetite or less active, then we should take him to our vet. I checked his body and mouth for swollen skin or rash. Nothing abnormal was observed so we stayed in.

Wednesday and Thursday were much even better. He was more active and started running around chasing a ball, ate pretty well and no signs of diarrhea or vomit. On Thursday night, I suggested my husband to take him to a daycare on Friday. It was a last minutes but they kindly accepted.

It was 5am in the morning on Friday. It was 30min before my alarm went off, he jumped off the bed and did it again… otherwise he’s just fine. He does run around the house and eats well, so we took him to Dogtopia for daycare. We recently happened to find this Dogtopia near my husband’s office. We used to take him to PetSmart for a daycare but after we moved to a new place, it’s out of our way to work to take him. Additional 40min drive to work was really tough in the morning with traffic and it’s so nice to finally find a place we love. The best thing about this Dogtopia is that they have webcam in each room and we can monitor him all the time through their app (they have a nap time between 12pm to 2pm so camera goes off). Moreover while he’s at daycare, it’s 8 hrs of socializing and play time. When he comes home, he just sleep pretty good until next morning.

Orbit passed out on the floor.

Anyways, as long as I was watching him (at my desk :P) he was running around with other dogs and following stuffs everywhere, played outside, just like usual energetic Orbit. That’s my dog’s name 🙂 Around 2pm, my husband texted me that Dogtopia contacted him explaining that Orbit threw up a little bit after lunch. It could be since he doesn’t feel comfortable being in a cage but he has to stay in for a nap time and lunch time, and/or because the food is different than what he usually eats. Though, they also added he seems fine.

That leads to now writing a blog about our week and waiting for my husband to pick him up from the daycare to come home.

And surely we are expecting a package from Amazon that I ordered – non-toxic, pet friendly laundry detergent, liquid fabric softener (yes, I’m gonna BAN the dryer sheets forever from my house!!!), and dishwasher detergent. It was pretty quick move after he vomited on Monday night. I did all the research about pet safe laundry/dishes soaps and read what people say or veterinarian comments and decided to order Seventh Generation products. Seem like they have good reputations for sensitive skin or baby, use biobased and plant based ingredients, and no synthetic dye or fragrances are used. I just can’t wait for a laundry this weekend. Hopefully it won’t happen again to Orbit.

Besides that is we’ll need to discuss whether we should take him to vet tomorrow. Hope he’s gonna feel okay soon…

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!
