So during this week on Wednesday, I finally went to a lab and did the glucose test.
Overall, not so bad.
Glucose Test Experience:
First you walk in (my clinic doesn’t require an appointment for the lab work) and tell your name. Then the lab technician will find what your doctor ordered you to do. I didn’t have to explain anything but she found out right away that I needed to do a glucose test.
Now you’ll need to finish a super sweet drink. There were 3 different flavor to choose from, Orange, Fruit Punch, and Lemon Lime.
I was gonna go for an orange flavor, but I was thinking myself; if the drink itself is sweet enough, orange is gonna make you feel even sweeter. I was imagining a Fanta Orange. I’m not a soda drinker, so it worked really good. I don’t want any after taste. Definitely no to the fruit punch. So I picked a lemon lime flavor. I can’t remember how much sugar was in my drink, but it seems like there are 50g, 75g, 100g options. Mine was maybe a 50g one.
Refrigerated well so it was even easier to drink. I was given 5 min to finish the drink.
“Ah Sweet!!” I couldn’t resist not to say anything LOL It surely is really sweet, but I bet a lemon lime flavor was an excellent choice!!
After finishing the drink, they told me to wait in the waiting room for an hour. I double checked with my doctor prior that I am not allowed to leave the facility to run an errand or anything. So make sure you’ll bring something to read or a fully charged phone or tablet.
I killed my time by playing with my phone and people watching. It was on Wednesday before noon, I saw many elderly people coming in and out. It’s probably what they do pretty frequently. These lab technicians knew their patients’s name and were really friendly like they were talking to their grandparents. It was a nice and smiley moment to listen to their conversation.
Anyways, my one hour of waiting was done.
The technician called me back in and drew my blood. Unlike last time when I had to do multiple tests, this time was just one test. So they just needed to fill one vacutainer tube.
That’s it. Within a minute or so, I’m out of the clinic.
It’s been 4 days since they took my blood, but I haven’t received any result yet. They are typically pretty quick though. I mean how long does the sample last, right? Maybe the result is sent back to my doctor, but she is on PTO? Or it could be the sample was shipped to somewhere else for the testing? I just hope nothing went wrong. Hmm 🙁
If I didn’t pass the test, then I have to do it again but next time will be 3 hours test… That’s pretty long time to kill my time hahaha I hope that won’t happen – crossing my fingers.
