My pregnancy week 16 & 17 were absolutely normal. Few topics to talk about would be my 3rd OBGYN visit and prenatal lab work experiences, baby size, and any noticeable changes/comments.
First is a baby size.
At week 16, a baby is approximately 4.6 inches long and weighting in at 3.5 ounces. People say a baby is about the same size as avocado or an apple.
At week 17, a baby grows a bit bigger and is the size of a pear or a pomegranate, about 5.1 inches long and weighs about 5.9 ounces.
Changes/Comments
Nothing major happened in the past two weeks. My first maternity clothes has been delivered and I started wearing it 🙂 Super comfortable and no pressures on my belly!
Weight gain is consistently increasing by about 1lb a week as recommended, so it appears I’m doing ok. We’ll see once my food cravings come back. So that’s not happening during these weeks yet. I’m eating a larger potion each meal, but it’s not like my experience during the first trimester – eating every 3 hours lol
One minor concern was that I had little cramps in my lower belly sometimes. Nothing is critical and it’s not really hurting or anything. I google a little bit and what I found out is that’s because my uterus begin to stretch and that’s a normal thing. Also it was shown in my prenatal lab work. What a relief!!
3rd OBGYN visit & Prenatal Lab Work
I had my 3rd OBGYN appointment during week 17. The visit was pretty quick (about 15min).
They took my urine sample again and the assistant measured my weight/height, blood pressure, and my baby’s heartbeat rate. It was 146bpm this time! It’s getting lower.
This time was with a new doctor. He just came in and asked me if I have any questions. It sounds like everything appears normal, so he had nothing much to give me a warning or anything. He just told me to go get my prenatal lab work done within a couple of days and make an appointment for the 2nd ultrasound. He recommended to have this ultrasound during week 20, so I have scheduled it for 6/9. We are gonna find out a baby’s gender at this time 🙂
I had to go to a different facility to do my prenatal lab work. Luckily it was about 15min drive range. I went on the next day, and did a blood work and urine test. The facility was pretty empty so I could just walk in and finished in 15-20min. The results came back in the following day and everything seems fine.
I knew but they also checked my blood type. It’s for in case I loose too much blood during delivery. More likely, I’m dying to know what my husband’s blood type is LOL It appears that in America, people don’t really care about your blood type, and lots of them actually don’t know what they are. In Asia, good and bad, it’s a big thing though. I wonder if I can test my baby’s blood type right after he/she was born hahaha
That was it for week 16 & 17. I will keep you updated 🙂
