Gibsons Italia

This Monday was our 1 year wedding anniversary.

Location we picked for celebration was at Gibsons Italia.

It is located near Ogilvie Transportation Center (Metra Station), about 5min walk from the station.

It’s pretty convenient place for Metra commuters.

We made a reservation at 4:30pm, but since we arrived an hour early, we just decided to walk around the restaurant.

After walking around the building for 30min, we just went inside the restaurant to see if they could seat us early.

Surprisingly, at 4 O’clock, the restaurant was pretty packed.

We wanted to have a nice view, so we waited for about 10min till they clear the table by the window.

Waiting time – not so bad.

First thing first. DRINK.

Luckily for me, they had a non alcohol cocktails.

As an appetizer, we ordered:

  • MINI ROYAL PLATTER COTTO & CRUDO ($82)
  • PROSCIUTTO DI SAN DANIELE & MOZZARELLA DI BUFALA ($19)

Omg! The seafood is just amazing!

I’m not big fan of oysters, so I gave a whole thing to my husband to enjoy :p

Plus, I believe I shouldn’t be eating any raw food as I’m pregnant.

The rest on the platter was, a half lobster, Alaskan king crab, and 4 giant shrimps.

Honestly, I have never had any better crabs than here!!

Lobsters were cut and laid over coleslaw, which combination was really good in your mouth. Ummm yammy!!

The other appetizer was also outstanding. Volume-wise excellent. It could be good to share for 3 or more if you are planning to order main dishes. We took some leftovers home.

The main dish for us was:

  • SPAGHETTINI & MEATBALLS ($23)
  • Gibsons Grassfed Australian NEW YORK STRIP – Aged for minimum of 75 days ($54)
  • FRESH-CUT FRENCH FRIES ($10)

Meatball past for me. Pretty simple, but I had to order tomato sauce base pasta and this was their only option. I’ve been craving for this for a while. It seems like I’m in need of Tomatoes. haha We told them that we are sharing so they served it in two separate balls. That’s why it looks small if you wonder.

And of course desert!!

  • TIRAMISU ($12)
  • SORBETTO ($9)

That tiramisu that I really wanted to order was huge!!

I couldn’t even tell on Yelp when people posted photos, but it could be about 6″x4″ size container. We tried one third of portion and took home the rest.

Overall, I totally recommend this place to visit.

Nice view and good food! Though, one of our thought is that the restaurant is focusing on steak more than italian. So more of American-Italian theme I think.

It would be nice to pair with their wines too 🙂
