Pregnancy Week 8

So how was my week 8?

I still vividly remember that one day, it was Thursday, I had a super nausea at night.

It certainly came from the pregnancy symptoms – heightened sense of smell.

That night, I asked my husband to make me a vegetable soup so he started cooking from scratch. In the beginning it was a super tasty smell. He added leftover chicken/turkey/pork bones in water and started making a broth. If you love ramen, it was almost like tonkotsu flavor. So, I decided to jump on a treadmill and started counting steps while he’s cooking – yes, still continuing 10,000 steps a day, kinda?

After some time, the entire house was smells of tonkotsu. It could be because I’m also exercising and tired, I couldn’t stand the excessive smell. It made me a super sick and dizzy. I had to stop walking, escape to our bedroom and closed a door.

Fortunately, no vomiting, but that was the worst nausea that I’ve experienced so far.

I can also feel the same in Garlic. I used to love garlic, but at least not right now.

More likely, my craving has shifted towards something simple. Like I couldn’t take meat or fat, no heavy flavor or garlic anymore. I prefer just pure vegetables. I enjoy eating fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, edamame, even plane brown rice is appetizing me well. To dilute some flavors, I made a shio (salt) yakisoba with leftover corned beef.

Simple fried rice was also good menu for me. Just add frozen vegetables and eggs in brown rice, seasoned with soy sauce and dashi – make it less flavor.

Due to my cravings, I was afraid of measuring my weight. I avoided for a week, but finally I got on a scale today! This morning before eating & drinking, no clothes on (that’s how I measure usually lol), I got the number. Gained 4lbs since I became pregnant.

Oh…ok, not so bad. Just my tummy looks bigger.

I saw my first OBGYN doctor today, so I asked him if that’s what I should expect. He said it’s still normal gain. What a relief.

A nurse asked bunch of my personal and family health history. I expected to be tested more, but my doctor only checked my breasts and did a pelvic exam in addition to a general health check such as weight, height, blood pressure, and urine test. My blood pressure always gets a perfect score! I’m still doing great!

Sounds like ultrasound has to be done by appointment by someone else. I made an appointment for next week Wednesday (3/25). Pap smear is also gonna be at my 2nd visit, which will be on 4/22.

Unfortunately due to coronavirus, our Illinois state government ordered all residents to stay home until 4/7, starting tonight. Lots of businesses changed their way to work and so did hospitals. No visitors except for patients were allowed to come to see a doctor nor even waiting in the waiting room. My husband came with me but had to wait in a car and he’s gonna miss our first ultrasound test as well… It sucks, but we gotta follow what’s best for all of us.

At least I’ll be working from home until 4/7 for sure, so I’ll stay inside as much as possible.

Everybody, stay safe!!
