1st BBQ in 2020

Yesterday (and also today) had been reported with a really good weather, so we decided to have a BBQ for the first time this year 🙂

What we cooked was:

  • Marinated chicken thigh Teriyaki flavor
  • Scallops wrapped in bacon
  • Vegetable skewer (Tomato, Onion, Zucchini, Bell Pepper)
  • Butter and bacon satay-ed spinach and corn
  • Steaks
  • Yum and Potato leftover

Those wrapped in aluminum foil are the spinach and yum/potatoes

Everything turned out pretty amazing! First time trying a scallop in bacon was really good, and also first trial of spinach was cooked well and tasty.

I wanted to try Yaki imo, which is Japanese baked sweet potato. So we did. The kind we can get from grocery stores here is not exactly the same sweet potatoes that we could get in Japan. So it turned out more sweet and mushy, but not bad.

The temperature went up to 74F and we’ve got morning sun and afternoon cloud. It rained like a minute when we started charcoals, but held pretty good afterwords.

I did a bit of gardening in the morning as well. Since lots of items were out of stock, no choice but I ordered a purple wonder strawberry bare root from Burpee. So I replanted it to a bigger pot. I’m curious how the fruits are gonna look like.

I also took my Plumeria outside. I’ve received them from my parents in law in Hawaii. It did pretty good last year and had to move them in the garage during the Chicago winter. I’m not sure if they’ve survived, but I guess we’ll see in summer.
